I opened a new brand board for a boutique candle client aiming for a soft, romantic aesthetic. The goal was to create a visual identity that felt warm, intimate, and handcrafted. I reached for Love Valentina, a script font I’d recently downloaded but hadn’t yet tested in a real-world project. As soon as I typed “Lavender & Light” — the brand’s working name — across the top of the board, I knew this font had potential.
Love Valentina is a romantic and sweet calligraphy typeface with characters that dance along the baseline. It’s not just another decorative font; it has a distinct personality that leans toward the delicate, the nostalgic, and the feminine. It’s the kind of typeface that works best when you want to evoke emotion, not just communicate information.
Testing Love Valentina Across Brand Touchpoints
Next, I dropped Love Valentina into a logo concept. I used it for the brand name on a simple candle packaging mockup. The font’s swashes and flowing strokes gave the design a soft, artisanal feel. If you’re designing for a more formal or minimalist brand, this font may feel out of place. It carries a certain whimsy and intimacy that may not suit every project. But for the right brand — especially those leaning into a handmade, artisanal, or romantic vibe — it’s a powerful visual tool.
Pairing Love Valentina with Supporting Fonts
One of the best things about Love Valentina is how well it pairs with other fonts. I tested it with a few combinations during the branding project:
- Serif + Script: I paired it with a light serif font for a vintage-inspired look. This worked well for packaging labels and print ads.
- Sans Serif + Script: For a modern contrast, I used a clean sans serif for subheadings and body text. This helped balance the softness of Love Valentina with a bit of structure.
